Expressing Freely - at GINSHO SHOIN Osaka
Last Sunday, a lovely couple from the UK visited us.When guests come to our studio, we first ask what they would like to write, and then we create the piece together right there in the moment.
Writing from the Heart
So instead of asking them to choose from pre-prepared phrases like “This is what Japan is known for” or other popular traditional words, we encourage them to write freely and honestly, following whatever comes to their heart.
Surprising Words, Unexpected Joy
Because of this, we sometimes receive words that surprise us. Even so, each time we can feel the person’s thoughts, determination, and even their sense of humor behind the words, and we truly enjoy the experience. This time, we even encountered a kanji that was new to us — one we had never written before. It was so cute.
A Memory Across the Sea
The couple from London picked things up very quickly. They had such a natural sense of style, and in no time at all, they were improving right before our eyes. They told us they plan to hang the piece in their home after returning to the UK. We felt truly happy to know that this memory of ours will be kept close, even across the sea. If you’d like to know more, please check out their review.☺
We look forward to welcoming more guests this year, and hope that through these small cultural exchanges, people can experience a little bit of Japan’s heart and spirit.
