Before you visit: We’ve gathered some of the questions we are often asked. We hope this helps you feel relaxed and ready to enjoy the experience with us.


① Do I need to speak Japanese?

No, you don’t need to speak Japanese.An English-speaking assistant will be present, so you can feel at ease. Of course, if you would like to challenge yourself in Japanese, you are very welcome.Rather than thinking too much, just try and enjoy the experience.


② Is this suitable for beginners?

Yes, absolutely. At the beginning, the teacher will guide you through how to hold the brush,how to use the ink and tools, and the basic strokes.

As you practice a few times, you will gradually become more comfortable.


③ What can I write?

You are free to write anything that feels meaningful to you.

Some people create haiku, some prefer writing on larger paper,and others focus on a single character or word that is important in their life.

You can write kanji, hiragana, or katakana —this is a space for you to express yourself freely.


④ Is this a private lesson?

We offer both private and small-group style sessions. Even in shared sessions, we keep the atmosphere calm and personal.


⑤ How do I book?

Please contact us via email. Your booking will be confirmed once we receive your reply,

as reservations are confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. As we are a small studio,

we truly appreciate your kind understanding.


⑥I haven’t received a reply — what should I do?

We usually reply via Gmail. If you don’t see our email, it may have gone to your spam or junk folder,

so we would appreciate it if you could check there.


⑦ Can children join?

Yes, children are very welcome.We often have families joining the experience together.


⑧Will I receive photos or videos?

Yes, we would be happy to share photos and videos from your session.

If you connect with us via WhatsApp or LINE,we can send them to you afterward so you can keep the memory with you ☺


⑨ Can I continue learning calligraphy on a regular basis?

Yes, of course. Some people continue to come regularly for ongoing lessons.If you feel interested, please feel free to reach out by email anytime.


⑩ Do you accept schools, group bookings, or off-site sessions?

Yes, we welcome schools and group bookings, and also offer off-site sessions.

About the Experience at Ginsho Shoin, Calligraphy in Osaka

Nestled in a peaceful traditional house in Sumiyoshi, Osaka, our calligraphy sessions are guided by Master GINSHO, who has over 60 years of experience.


🕰️ Session Time: 90 minutes


🎌 Language: English and Japanese-friendly


🧁 Includes: Japanese tea and seasonal Japanese sweets


💴 Fee: Adults ¥5,000 / Children under 15 ¥3,500 (all materials included)

10% of your fee goes to support disaster relief efforts in Japan
