A Gentle Start to the Year - Calligraphy in Osaka
It has already been a month since the New Year began. How has the start of this year been for you?
We hope this year brings you good health, prosperity, moments of relaxation, and plenty of time to focus on what truly matters to you☺
Discovering Tenkoku
While we offer calligraphy experiences to our guests, we are also continuously learning ourselves. At the end of last year, we even had the opportunity to submit our work to an exhibition.
In addition to the act of writing, which we usually introduce through our sessions, we have also been studying tenkoku, the art of carving stone seals. These seals are carved with a favorite line of poetry or a name, and in calligraphy they are pressed onto a piece as the final finishing touch.
The Charm of Three Colors
GINSHO has many years of experience, while I have been learning as an assistant for about a year and a half. Even so, I find tenkoku deeply fascinating. From the origins and forms of characters, to the balance of placing a vermilion seal on white paper, and the sense of harmony in the completed work — expressing a personal world using only three colors, white, black, and red, is truly captivating.
I still have much to learn, but my New Year’s resolution is to move beyond simply completing tasks and to deepen my learning with greater intention.
What is your New Year’s resolution?
We look forward to welcoming more guests this year, and hope that through these small cultural exchanges, people can experience a little bit of Japan’s heart and spirit.
