An On-Site Calligraphy Workshop - at GINSHO SHOIN Osaka

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting an on-site calligraphy workshop.

Participants included people from Japan, as well as guests from various countries who were visiting Japan for a conference.

Three Kanji, Three Expressions

For this session, we chose three kanji as our themes: Hope (希), Wisdom (智), and Dream (夢).

GINSHO demonstrated three different styles for each character, ranging from forms inspired by the ancient roots of kanji still used in everyday Japanese, to more artistic and flowing expressions. Participants then selected the style that resonated with them and explored it through their own writing.

Respect, Curiosity, and the Joy of Learning

As many participants were experiencing calligraphy for the first time and our time together was limited, we began gently, allowing everyone to become familiar with the feel of the ink and the washi paper.

From there, participants were encouraged to write freely and create a piece of their own.

A Memorable Experience to Carry Home

Throughout the workshop, we could feel a deep sense of respect for calligraphy, along with curiosity and the simple joy of learning something new.

It left us with a warm sense that the experience became a special and memorable moment for all of us.

The session passed by so quickly that we didn’t have time to hear everyone’s thoughts. Still, we could clearly feel how much the experience was enjoyed. If you happen to be reading this, we would love to hear your reflections☺

Afterwards, GINSHO was still full of excitement. Experiences like this surely help keep her young at heart! Thank you very much to everyone who made this opportunity possible.

We sincerely hope that your research will contribute to a bright and inspiring future!

・We also offer on-site group calligraphy workshops like this. Please feel free to contact us for further details.

We look forward to welcoming more guests this year, and hope that through these small cultural exchanges, people can experience a little bit of Japan’s heart and spirit.
